Short ride
A circular, mostly flat 24 km (15 mile), fast-going ride on Milton Keynes’ purpose-made bridleways, which are a mixture of surfaces. Roadwork is minimal (approx 1.5 km, 1 mile). Approximately four gates may need to be closed as there are sometimes sheep or cows. The bridleways only cross minor, quiet roads. There are a number of bridges and underpasses and in some places the bridleways pass close to canals and rivers. Willen Lake offers spectacular views and a long canter.
NB At the start, the ride passes close to the A5 with traffic noise and possibly a car boot sale.
Towards the end you will need to pass the concrete cows.
Long ride
An extra, optional loop alongside Caldecotte Lake, to the south east of Milton Keynes, extends the short ride to 33 km (20.5 miles).
Please note that, due to the unique nature of the bridleway network in MK, maps do not show the turns and cross-overs in sufficient detail. Therefore both routes will be marked with frequent chalk arrows.
