Bury Down is a lightly marked ride following established rights of way and permissive paths.

You are encouraged to download to your phone an electronic map (links will be provided in Information document).

Please note there is no access to the parking area for lorries over 7.5 tonne!

The Bury Down Ride is centred on the Ridgeway in the Berkshire Downs, which is big, open countryside and where there are many fabulous routes.

The route has a number of opportunities for longish canters amongst the varied route through lovely countryside. It is mostly off-road, with going that stands up to all weathers and includes open downs and tracks through wooded areas. Ocasional sections are stony. Being where it is, there are a few parts with lots of walkers, dogs, cyclists etc. so please be aware!

Named after the Flora Thompson book 'Lark Rise to Candleford' this ride covers Flora's old stamping grounds of Candleford and Cottisford and goes through the lovely Tusmore Estate.

Ride Distances: 18.5 km (11 miles) 15 km (9 miles) plus 9.5 km (6 miles). Lovely ride. Flat terrain with mostly good going including a number of nice canters. A few fields are stony - 1 ford to cross (but can be avoided).

There are pheasant feeders and young birds around the Tusmore Estate so take care!

The route will be marked lightly, with an emphasis on places that might be confusing. There will be no marking in the parkland, SO YOU WILL NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON YOUR MAP and TALK ROUND - LOOKING FOR MARKERS & BRIDLEWAY SIGNS. The routes have been plotted on OS Maps and you will be supplied with a link.
